Meet Dr. Leslie, Veterinarian & Owner of Leslie Animal Clinic
Dr. Darryl B. Leslie, DVM
Darryl B. Leslie was born and raised in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He attended Colorado State University and received his doctorate in veterinary medicine degree in 1991. This added a third veterinarian to the family, as his father and oldest brother, Earl, were also veterinarians. Dr. Leslie joined his father’s practice in June 1991 and purchased the practice from him in 1994. This practice — Leslie Animal Clinic — was set up by Dr. Earl Leslie in 1959, and it was a proud day for the family as it passed from one generation to the next.
Dr. Leslie’s interest area continues to be veterinary medicine, especially listening to client needs and trying to find answers for improving pet health and providing compassionate veterinary health care. He tells us: “I believe in working to improve the veterinary profession by being involved in the state and national associations.” He demonstrates this commitment to veterinary medicine by serving in the following positions:
- President of the New Mexico Veterinary Medical Association (NMVMA) 2003–2004
- Southwest Director of the NMVMA 1995–2003, 2006–2007
- Currently serving as the Immediate Past President and the New Mexico representative to the Board of Managers of the Southwest Veterinary Symposium, which is a regional veterinary conference of progressive continuing education for veterinarians.
- New Mexico Representative to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as the alternate delegate and member New Mexico Veterinary Medical Association.
In addition to his community and professional work, he is accredited with NVAP as a Category I veterinarian. This means he is considered a government veterinarian who is able to fulfill pet import and export requirements; that is, inspect import and export pets and issue international health certificates. This is an added credential that is very important to our military friends and clients, those who travel with their families and pets all over the world to keep Americans safe!
Dr. Leslie married his wife, Kim, on August 11, 1990. They have three children: Caysen, 20, who is in his Sophmore year at New Mexico State University; Dara, 16, who is also in her Sophomore year at Alamogordo High School; and Londyn, 8, who is hoping to be the next Veterinarian in the family. The Leslie's also have a high spirited Labradoodle named "Dizzy". Outside of work, Dr. Leslie's interests include his family, church (he's a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church), shooting sports, woodworking, gardening, traveling, and general "tinkering" with household projects.
